How will the Baby Sharon Fund get money?
Anyone can contribute to the fund at anytime but there will also be a box for contributions on the state income tax form. In 2001, Arkansas had 1 million 67 thousand individual tax forms filed so there is potential for a sizable fund from taxpayer donations.
How much money do you think the fund will distribute?
A rough estimate would be an average of $60,000 per month.
How is my request for money handled?
A five member volunteer committee approves all requests.
Can someone over the age of 18 get help?
The voluntary committee makes all decisions about who gets help on a case-by-case basis. An important fact to consider was how old was the patient at the onset of the illness.
How often does the committee meet?
They meet every other month beginning in January on the last Tuesday of the month. In an emergency, there may be a called meeting. You can always check with the social work department at Arkansas Children's Hospital for the time and location of a Baby Sharon Fund meeting.
Do I need to come to the meeting?
We prefer for your case to be presented by a social worker, but the meetings are open to the public. You will be asked to leave during the grant discussions when personal information is presented with the exception being for your case.
How do I get my money?
The money is distributed through the ACH social work department and usually arrives within a week.
